Educating Global Citizens about Hong Kong’s Housing Crisis & Inhumane Living Conditions
At OKOK, we hope to raise funds and promote initiatives to serve those who need our help the most. Our vision is that all Hong Kong children and students have access to adequate housing and are provided with the same opportunity to prosper and thrive in a safe environment. We believe in taking action with urgency, in order to raise public awareness about some of the most pressing issues facing today’s society. Please join us by supporting our efforts to make a measurable difference in the lives of others.
Who We Are
Founded in 2021, OKOK is a social impact clothing brand, spearheaded by Hayden Yau and Bea Sweeney. Our purpose as a brand is to educate and inform individuals about the harmful effects of the housing crisis in Hong Kong. Through the distribution and sale of self-designed OKOK clothing items, consumers can raise awareness about this dire issue by wearing our products. All profits from the sales of our clothes will be donated to Society for Community Organization (SoCO) Hong Kong. Previously, we have donated to Habitat for Humanity HK, a local Section 88 registered non-profit housing organization with a view of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. We also spend time organizing local events in conjunction with local charities, providing support for poverty-stricken communities in Hong Kong.
Our Mission
At OKOK, we believe that all Hong Kong citizens should be given equal opportunities to thrive in healthy and sustainable homes, unsubjected to inhumane living conditions. Our project began as an attempt to raise awareness about the squalid environments residents of subdivided flats and caged homes are subjected to. We advocate for government regulations that ensure necessary hygiene and fire safety items, as well as machines that regulate air quality, are provided by landlords. We hope to improve the communication between landlords, occupants, and the government, while increasing the amount of fire and structural safety-risk inspections. We at OKOK recognize the detrimental effects eliminating subdivided flats has on the ongoing housing crisis. We seek instead, for subdivided flats to be constructed with attention towards the maintenance of fundamental safety and living standards and building code. Our goal is to expand beyond raising awareness through clothing, by grouping fortunate individuals, and encouraging them to volunteer in local initiatives.
Mother Teresa
"We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked, and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty."
Our Executives
Coming together from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences, our skilled team of professionals is the backbone of OKOK. Our ideas help shape the direction and mission of our organization as it continues to develop. We approach work and play with curiosity and experimentation, using what we learn to create meaningful products that connect with people, just like you.
